ICC launches Incoterms® 2010 rules with major conference

On 27-29 September, for a one-off launch conference and the first of ICC headquarters’ series of practical masterclasses on the Incoterms® 2010 rules, members of the Incoterms® Drafting Group will give a detailed public presentation of the new rules and demonstrate through case-studies the major changes and processes that users will need to know in their everyday practice.

The revision, the first in a decade, reflects the profound changes that have taken place in global trade since 2000. These include the increased importance of cargo security, the resulting new obligations on traders, developments in container transport, and the 2004 revision of the United States’ Uniform Commercial Code, which resulted in a deletion of the former US shipment and delivery terms.

The launch conference and masterclasses will address these and other changes, and will offer drafting tips, real life examples of the rules in action, and feedback from the key experts involved in elaborating the rules.

“These launch events are a unique opportunity for trade professionals to learn the fundamentals of the new Incoterms® 2010 rules from the drafters themselves,” said Emily O’Connor, ICC Senior Policy Manager and Secretariat for the Drafting Group. “There is no organization better placed than ICC – the organization that created and maintains the Incoterms rules – to help traders learn how to apply the rules correctly to their global or domestic sales transactions.”

The launch conference and masterclasses should be of particular interest to contract/execution managers involved in the export/import of goods, trade finance officers, in-house freight and carriage operatives, in-house insurance specialists, commercial lawyers, and anyone interested in learning about the changes to the Incoterms® rules.

In addition to the two Co-Chairs of the Incoterms Drafting Group – Charles Debattista, Professor of Commercial Law at the University of Southampton, United Kingdom and Christoph Martin Radtke, Partner, Lamy & Associés, France – other presenters will include David Lowe, Partner, Wragge & Co., United Kingdom; Lauri Railas, Attorney-at-Law, Krogerus Attorneys, Finland; Miroslav Šubert, Secretary, ICC Czech Republic; and Professor Jan Ramberg LL.D, Author of the ICC Guide to the Incoterms® 2010 rules.
