US-based logistics services provider, National Retail Systems (NRS), has joined the CargoNet program as a charter member. John Tabor, director of corporate security for NRS, has been appointed to the CargoNet Advisory Board.
According to Tabor, cargo crime continues to be a major threat throughout the US, accounting for billion-dollar losses every year, particularly for retailers and pharmaceutical companies.
He added that the company's strategic alliance with CargoNet will lead to more secure supply chains for NRS customers, enabling the expedited exchange of information that ultimately boosts supply chain defences.
The supply chain security systems and processes in place at NRS have been recognised as among the most advanced in the industry by law enforcement and government agencies nationwide.
A division of Verisk's ISO Crime Analytics unit, CargoNet helps prevent cargo theft and increases recovery rates through secure and controlled information sharing between theft victims, their business partners, and law enforcement.
Centred on a national database and information-sharing system managed by crime analysts and subject-matter experts, CargoNet applies an integrated, layered approach that exploits the weakness of cargo thieves at multiple points and includes integrated databases, a theft alert system, task force and investigations support, a tractor/trailer theft deterrence program, the TruckStopWatch program, driver education and incentives, secondary-market monitoring and interdictions, crime trend analysis and loss control services, and training and education.
